Daily Gleaner: "Tommies making progress - Eagles"

Bill Hunt speaks with Coach Mike Ealges about the 2009-10 Tommies, last weekend's NCAA games, and this weekend's game versus Dalhousie.
"They're a team that's looking to get back in the playoff picture, and that's what we're looking for," Eagles said. "These are two teams looking to rebuild. It's a great opportunity for us to play them and hopefully win. That's a team we're going to have to beat if we're going to make the playoffs."

  1. I'm pretty optimistic about this season. We got a year older. Obviously, i dont expect us to run the table and beat UNB 4 times and raise the banner. But I expect this team to be competitive and I think the way the team played with an NCAA power and beat another NCAA team, and beat UdeM, my expectations is a playoff position, maybe even upsetting a team. We recruited really well and we have 3 lines that can score and work hard. I have an idea for captain of the team, but who knows what Coach Eagles is thinking. I am going to enjoy watching the games and not filming them because i have 4 years of pent up referee yelling to make up! haha

I was present at both NCAA exhibition games and saw many things to be optimistic about the coming season.
The team has a number of new players who have improved the core left from last year.
The 1st game vs Northeastern featured a 3rd period tying goal and go ahead against a strong NCAA representative, with any luck a victory could have been attained.
A late arrival to Sacred Heart affected the play but perseverance prevailed and the victory was secured. I look forward to an exciting year in the AUS where improvements by many teams will make for competitive hockey,GET TO THE RINK and support the TOMMIES.

  6. Probably Cassidy or Tremblay. Both are Academic All-Canadians and both deserving.

  7. I think we have a middle of the pack team this year, much like my first year when we beat X. We have good goaltending and so long as we can limit the shots against, we could have make a half decent team into a good one.

As captain, I've got Keith Wynn. He's stabilizing from the back end.

However, I have no qualls for Tremblay or Cassidy as captain.
