TOMMIES WIN! STU IN FINALS!! March 2nd, 2007.

Tommies 3 - X-Women 2. AUS Semi-fianls.

In what can only be called a STUnning upset, the upstart Lady Tommies defeat first place ST FX. If memory serves correctly, this will be the first AUS women’s finals without St Mary’s or ST FX participating. In today’s game Emily Hobbs made 44 saves and the Tommies made the most of their opportunities to pull out the HUGE win. The Tommies will face U de M in the finals tomorrow afternoon at the LBR. You’d be crazy to miss it!!

St FX was first on the board with a power play goal a little over 4 minutes in. Amy MacLennan scored on the PP at 18:26 from Lucrece Nussbaum to keep the game knotted heading to the second period. The Tommies kept the 1st ranked X-Women off the score sheet in the second, thanks in large part to Emily’s great play.

Malin Storas got things rolling in the third at 4:38 unassisted. The Ladies would never look back and Caroline Hammerheim from Amy MacLennan at 14:55 scored the eventual game winner. X narrowed the margin to 1 with 22 seconds left but a STUnned St FX bench was left to ponder what just hit them. It was the Tommies Train. CONGRATULATIONS on this huge win and see you tomorrow afternoon at the LBR!!! DG Article
