Tommies get big win in Shediac

Any night you win is a good night but tonight was great for two rookies, Charles the Great and Great Scott. Our rookie goaltender faced 51 Moncton shots and our rookie forward scored a late third period marker for a 3 to 2 Tommies victory.

The Tommies started out the night short handed as Tyler Dietrich was serving a suspension and Matt Eagles did not play. Wes Welcher and Andrew Andricopoulos scored in the first period and Charles Lavigne made an outstanding save on a clear cut breakaway to preserve the lead going into the second frame.

Moncton scored two goals in the second period on a deflection that went high and a broken play with a U de M guy all alone in tight. This after three STU regulars, at the start of game, left with injuries. Scott Judson debuted at left wing after being a healthy scratch on the Island last weekend and Andrew Estey returned to the line-up.

With STU having a depleted bench, the shot clock favoured U de M in the third but Jordan Scott got the winner late in the period after Erick Tremblay fired a cannon shot on goal. Moncton pulled the goaltender and tried to tie but Lavigne shut the door. Wes Welcher and Mike Reich both contributed late by winning some big face-offs when it mattered. Final shots were 51 to 19 for Les Aigles Bleus.

The Tommies next game is against the Northeastern Huskies next Saturday night.

  1. As posted time and time again. The Tommies only win when they have a better than most goaltender. That has always been the way with both teams. 50+ shots on a goaltender isn't a hockey game, it's an arcade game. Yet the Tommies win. Both teams sink to the bottom of the loop unless they have a top tender. Women rose with unlimited funds and a goaltender she leaves they slide to the bottom. Luckily for them UNB folded it's team so they have money, and lost the big sister in town. men same thing, goalie graduates, team sinks, but money and a new goaltender takes them to the top. STU are the Yankees of the hockey world. I only complain because these teams are kept alive at the expense of student tution and other student sacrafices.

  2. ^^^ win is a win. Remember the time when Belfour or Joseph would face a lot of Senators shots and the Leafs would still win. Thats university hockey. Just stop whining.

  3. Yes, "as posted time and time again", one tune pony. If the shots had been closer, what would your comments have been then? In your mind, I guess the Tommies can't win even when they win.

  4. it would still be a win is a win. Its all about the 2 points, even if the shots are 100-1!

  5. To "as posted time and time again". It sounds like you actually resent the team and its members when it is the situation that is unfair. What do you expect these players to do, refuse to come to STU because the hockey team gets most of the funds. Ifyou were in one of the varsity sports, would you refuse a free pair of shoes or free clothing, or paid tuition, or a paid trip to a tournament in, oh, Florida, etc if ONLY your team were offered this and not the other varsity teams? ALL teams should be supporting each other in their respective sports and try to get the "siuation" fixed. Don't cut down a team or its players who have no control over the way things are.

  6. What did Dietrich get suspended for?

  7. I believe Tyler was suspended for an incident that happened on PEI last weekend. As the game concluded James Cooley and Tyler got into some rough stuff.

As for Mr. Anonymous STU Hockey slagger, get some facts together, compare them to every other CIS University and then please stop you silly rants. Their are enough Squirrels that post their negative views here now. If you feel compelled to post such crap, please feel free to go to www.unbhockeyfans.com as we really don't want to hear from you anymore. We do not appreciate or want your UNB fan bombs anymore and would ask that you stop. Thanks.

  8. Your comment has been deleted. As I said before, take your crap else where. You probably aren't a Squirrel, at least they stir up the rivalry and make the odd point, you're just a poo poo disturber. Please stop.

  9. I'm a UNB fan but I wanted to say I wish them the best of luck down south. Northwestern is a top ten NCAA team.

    Don't emabarrass us! ;)

  10. Only two beefs with the programs, cost and AD should not be coach also. Bias towards funding for club vs varsity sports.

  11. Be careful what you write, STUTOMMIES.COM may delete your negative comments. It seems that he/she only wants STU to be worshiped on this particular blog. How dare someone criticize either STU or their hockey program? Let's point the finger at UNB fans and blame them. It's much easier than facing the fact that there may be certain people (other athletes, students, etc.) that may have a problem with what is happening in Tommieland.

  12. That's right and don't forget it. It's one thing to rag on the hockey teams in general because of their game play but you (maybe several anonymous commentors) leave crap and run.

We on the other hand do this for the love of the team, our school, and our fans. We invest time, money, and love and expect nothing from anyone. It's free, period.

Let's point the finger at UNB as you seem to want to do to STU. They have PR people, huge resources to draw from, and by the same token have very loyal fans who also dedicate their time like we do. So yes, your crap annoys us, write a letter to the Gleaner, it isn't necessary here.

You wonder why we think you are a poo poo slinging UNB Fan? No self respecting St. Thomas fan would write your crap and we have been fan bombed for over a year now by drop ins and regular UNB people. Maybe you aren't, don't care, you are trying to stir the pot, so once again, STOP.

  13. I'm not trying to stir the pot but as you wrote, and I quote, "no self respecting St. Thomas fan would write your crap...". That's my point, not everyone is a self respecting St. Thomas fan. Is this site solely reserved for those who are? Don't point the finger solely at UNB and their fans and blame us for other what other people think about STU... whether negative or positive. PLEASE STOP!

P.S. I didn't write the first post of this thread, I only responded to the fact that you automatically assumed it was a UNB fan.

  14. No, the site is for everyone. Commenting is subject to scrutiny. The site is about hockey, not politics. That said, the site is not a democracy. Oh, and I was right about you being a UNB fan...most of the negative stuff usually is, not exclusively, but usually. Some of you idiots like to change it up once and a while thinking your smart but my sitemeter tells me your IP address, so I guess you aren't out smarting anyone. I also don't see St. Thomas fans going over to unbhockeyfans.com and fan bombing, which also says something. So kudos to St. Thomas fans.

OK, point taken. Thanks for the comment.

  16. UNB hosted a fall classic this past weekend and there was only 2 teams and they were one of them.
Still cannot figure out why a team that is suppose to be that good cannot fill a rink.
Of course here in Freddy beach,True fans go to STU games and true fans go to UNB games.
The non true fans only show-up when something is on the line.

  17. "Still cannot figure out why a team that is suppose to be that good cannot fill a rink."

I am sure most CIS teams would die for a crowd of over 1500 to one of their games...let alone an exhibition game.

  18. stu will lose most of their games, but real fans know when the team is really trying and improving.sometimes "wait till next year "means something.but i don`t think fans will be disappointed in the effort this team will put out this year.
