Third period collapse does in Tommies

The Tommies opened the home portion of their season tonight on the wrong end of a 7 to 2 score.  The Acadia Axemen scored five third period goals to blow open an otherwise tight checking game through two periods.

STU opened the scoring at 6:29 of the 1st as rookie Brendan Childerley scored his 2nd of the season, assists to Cameron & Bernier.  The Axemen tied the game later in the first with a shorthanded marker at 17:50. Shots were 12-7 in favour of Acadia after one.

In the 2nd, Acadia scored first at 13:48 but the Tommies roared back to tie the game once again with a beauty PP goal by Colin Martin (Poulin, Cheremetiev). Shots 7-4 in favour of Acadia in 2nd.

In the 3rd, it was all Acadia, as they scored 5 unanswered goals and the wheels fell completely off. Jordan Thomas, who was injured in the 2nd period, did not return to action in the 3rd. Following Acadia's 6th goal at 6:33, Jon Groenheyde received a 5 minute match penalty and a game misconduct.  He will be suspended but for how long, we don't know.  Alex St-Arnaud finished the game in nets making several outstanding saves and allowing just one goal. Final shots on goal 31-17 favouring Acadia.

The Tommies will need to re-group as they face the DAL Tigers tomorrow evening in the ANNUAL LOU CHABOT GAME.  See you at the GHC.

  1. Team basically stooped playing in the third. Old saying, "need to play hard for 60 minutes" end of story. Tomorrow is another day and the boys will rebound back.
