STU finishes off tourney with win over X

The Tommies completed a winning weekend with a hard fought 3 to 1 victory over perennial powerhouse ST-FX. Julia Sharun out battled Katie Harvieux of X in net at the final game of the Moncton tournament for both teams.

The first period was scoreless with the X-Women out shooting St. Thomas 6 to 3. In the second frame Kathleen Boyle would get the Tommies on the board first when she stepped into the high slot and fired one past Harvieux on the blocker side. Rookie Katie Brewster would get the only assist. The lead lasted about 5 minutes before Catie Gavin brought X back to even terms but before the 2nd period ended Jillian Coughlin would deflect the Jessica Holt point shot for a Tommies lead they would not relinquish. The goal was scored on the PP with Lyse Rossignol picking up the other assist. Shots in the period favoured X 13 to 9.

Sharun would keep the opposition off the score sheet in the third and Caroline Hammerheim intercepted an errand pass in the final minute and finished off the scoring into the empty net.

A great way to end this tournament for the Ladies. The Tommies now head home to recoup, make adjustments, and get ready to play this same X team in 2 weeks but this time for real in the regular season.
