In the first game of the U de M tournament the UPEI Panthers eked out a 2 to 1 victory over St. Thomas. The Panthers scored two first period goals on STU defensive miscues and out shot the Tommies 9 - 5.
In the second frame the Tommies turned it around and scored in the first half of the period. Andrea Fischer got her first for the Green and Gold off a Caroline Hammerheim point shot with the other assist to Kelly Matthews but that would prove to be the only one getting past the PEI goaltender on this night.
STU would dominate the last two periods out shooting the Panthers 20 - 12 and overall 25 to 21 but could not get the tying goal. Julia Sharun was strong in net but was saddled with the loss.
The Ladies will regroup tonight and get ready to play the loser of the St. Marys vs. Dalhousie game at 10 AM.
AUS site is reporting 3-2 UPEI. Are you guys sure of these details? Any idea who scored for UPEI?
