Tommies rookie forward Brendan Childerley, with a goal and an assist against St. FX. |
St-FX jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead by the 10 minute mark of the first period, even though the Tommies were outshooting them 8 to 3 up to that point. The puck just seemed to favour the X-Men in the first period, as the Tommies would end up with a 14 to 8 shot advantage after one.
Yuri Cheremetiev (Childerley) would cut X's lead in half at 11:26 of the second when he sniped one top shelf on the power play. St-FX would get a gift goal at 15:20 when Blake Gal of the X-Men was left all alone in front of Jon Groenheyde. STU didn't take long to respond though, as Brendan Childerley (Cameron, Hannay) banked one in off X-Men goalie Morgan Clark 23 seconds later.
The third period saw St. Thomas' Jon Bonneau assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for slashing at 26 seconds. The Tommies killed the penalty but only four seconds after it expired the X-Men would pull ahead by two goals. They would extend the lead with an empty net tally with 1:47 to play to make it 5 to 2 but Matt Bissonnette (Sanza, Levesque) scored at 19:21 to give the final score of 5 to 3.
Final shots on goal were 36 - 32 for the X-Men. The Tommies finish off their season tomorrow evening at 7 PM versus the Saint Mary's Huskies. Come out and see if the Tommies can play spoiler as the Huskies look to move up in the AUS playoff picture.
