X-Women defeat Tommies

The Lady Tommies got down early to St-FX this afternoon in Antigonish and couldn't find a way out of the hole they dug, dropping a 5 to 2 decision to the X-Women.

X scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the game before rookie Myfanwy Thomson(Steinert, Burns) got STU on the board with a powerplay marker with 40 seconds left in the first.

The Tommies would tie the game at 11:21 of the middle frame on a goal by Jordan Miller (Francis, Marcelline) but X responded just under 3 minutes later to retake the lead.  The Tommies couldn't muster anymore offense and the X-Women would score an insurance marker at 15:11 of the third and an empty netter with 13 seconds remaining in the game.

Kristin Wolfe was tagged with the loss stopping 33 of 37 shots while STU mustered 16 shots the other way.  St. Thomas was 1 for 4 on the powerplay and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill this afternoon.

After a tough 0 and 2 weekend the Tommies will have until next Saturday to lick their wounds before entertaining the UPEI Panthers in their home opener at 2 PM.

Interesting fact about today's game, three players had fathers who played for St. Thomas.  For the Tommies; Amanda Burns - Chris Burns 1990-94, Amy Duffield - Don Duffield 1979-83, and X-Women rookie Connor Garagan - Pat Garagan 1980-81, 1982-83.
