Lady Tommies Win in Home Opener

The STU Tommies Women's hockey team faced off against the UPEI Panthers this afternoon in their 2013-2014 home opener, a game in which the Lady Tommies were coming in with an 0-2 record to start the season. The Tommies picked up the win over the Panthers.

The Tommies opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Emily Francis (Erin MacIsaac, Amanda Burns) 11:22 in the first. The period ended with the Tommies hanging on to their 1-0 lead. The shots were well favoured towards the Tommies, 17-3. Kristin Wolfe had an amazing toe save to keep the Tommies lead at the end of the first period.

Second period scoring opened at 5:44 with a goal from Erin MacIsaac (Teah Anderson and Emily Francis), at this point the flood gates opened. The Tommies added two more goals, the first scored by Emily Francis (Erin MacIsaac, Teah Anderson) and the second scored by Katie Brewster (Amanda Burns, Stephanie Gates). UPEI pushed hard and 13 shots on goal to STU's 6. UPEI was able to squeak one by Wolfe, the score at the end of the second period was 4-1. Overall shots were 23-16 in favour of the Tommies.

The third period started off with Cassidy McTaggart (Stephanie Gates, Jordan Miller) scored early in the third period at 1:11. The Tommies held off the pressuring UPEI Panthers to the very end of the third period. The Panthers had 8 shots on goal in the third to the Tommies 6.

The final score of the game was 5-1 Tommies, with the shots on goal 29-24 also for STU. This was a great bounce back win for the Tommies, who play again tomorrow at the Grant-Harvey Centre versus Mt. A.
