The Lady Tommies started the 2013-14 season on the right foot defeating provincial rival U de M 2 to 1 this afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Center. Kristin Wolfe was sharp in the STU net and picked up the exhibition W.
STU was first on the board with a powerplay marker at 12:58 of the first when Jordan Miller sniped the top corner on a feed from Katie Brewster and Jenna Scott. The Tommies controlled most of the first period and out shot Moncton 14 to 6.
Les Aigles tied the game at 10:10 of the second frame off the stick of Marie-Pier Arsenault (Jodie Dupere) and overall played a much better period than the first. Just as the second period was coming to an end the Tommies rushed down ice and Kelty Apperson (P. MacDonald) potted what would end up being the winning goal. Moncton dominated the shot clock out shooting STU 8 to 3.
There was no scoring in the third as Kristin Wolfe locked down the win going the distance for the Tommies facing 22 shots in total, while Gabrielle Forget and Emilie Bouchard split duties facing 23 shots.
Four rookie skaters were in the line-up today for St. Thomas including; #18 Marie Michelle Savoie of Limoges ON, #20 Cassandra Young of Conception Bay NL, Teah Anderson of Regina SK, and Myfanwy Thomson of Stitsville ON. Goaltender Makayla Campbell of Shawville QC, dressed but did not see action today in a backup role.
