Tommies lose

AUS Story by UNB Sports Information. Now that I have cooled off sufficiently, it was good to see Jake Allen drop the puck and receive the warm greeting from 3500 + proud Canadians. Jake is the son of former Tommie Kurt Allen.

Daily Gleaner story here in the morning.

  1. Dan is being lazy...lol.

Story here at some point hah.

I only caught the third and UNB was running the team over and had a lot of control of the puck. Still, another 1 goal loss to the #1 team in the country.

  2. Hard to win when you only get 12ish shots on net.

  3. Squirrels finally getting to you?

  4. 4-3 is not a bad score to UNB as Video Guy said. A little more time on the clock they may have tied it up and went to OT. The Referee was not kind.
    They should beat Moncton tonight.

  5. Oilslick, you dont even have to look at the gamesheet to realize Thayer Doyle was reffing. What did Labonte and Lavinge get misconducts for last night?

  6. Probably for not keeping their mouths shut...if I had to guess...

  7. Thayer Doyle called far too many marginal penalties - sure they might have been penalties by the book but neither team was worse than the other - and he completely killed the flow of the first period.

I've e-mailed a copy of the game story along in case you want to use it.

  8. Thayer Doyle dislikes STU and he shows it all the time.He should stick to his teaching job.
UNB can be beat and some team is going to do it . I would like it to be us,but UPEI could do it tonight.

  9. Maybe you should write your own game story, Dan. You could start it something like this, "The St. Thomas Tommies blew another fine performance by Charles Lavigne by losing once again to their cross-campus rivals, the reigning CIS National Champion UNB Varsity Reds. With this loss, the Tommies fall out of the 6th and last playoff spot and are on the outside looking in, at least for the time being." That ought to get you started. I realize it's probably getting quite difficult to describe how STU keeps losing to UNB and make it sound interesting.

  10. I imagine it's hard to keep writing about the Tommies losing, period. Complain about the referees all you want. Yeah, Doyle is Doyle. The only reason STU was in the game is because UNB played as sloppy as they did. When is the talent situation going to be addressed at STU? Next year? The year after? Anyone? Anyone?

  11. Actually, the Tommmies have pretty good talent, it's just that UNB has the best collection of players in CIS hockey. You're talking about a team that's lost one game all season (and that to the AHL Mariners out of Portland). If STU can secure another sniper and perhaps a play-making defenceman, they'll be able to compete with anybody. Thought Dietrich had a very poor game last night but Labonte and Reich played well. Add Corey Banfield and Kenton Dulle and perhaps they can the game last night.

  12. Previous and on-going under recruiting accounts for the current dilema ie NOT ENOUGH MEAT!having done NOTHING again to correct this situation must be lais at the feet of one Mike Eagles, too caught up in personal ambitions resulting in not enough time to address the very serious mens hockey situation ......it has been public information that Pete Belliveau was fast tracking a solution for the Tigers while Eagles chose to do NOTHING.I believe that it is now time to replace Eagles both as coach and A/D,after 1 game in the second half we no longer occupy a play-off and will be farther behind after tonights game.
There are plenty of more qualified coaches residing in Fredericton and should be called upon to rectify this situation now,Eagles has attained his level of incompetance and should be replaced,it is unbelievable that a man of his thin qualifications could be holding down such jobs and even worse that he continues to do so obviously with the blessings of the STU leadership,I will continue to try and enjoy the on ice product hopefully tonight wit a less interfering referee.

  13. Just a sniper and playmaking defenseman? That's all? Well, it takes recruiting... strong recruiting to get those kinds of players. And I would argue even more is needed, unless "competing with just about anyone", i.e. mediocrity, is acceptable. Because this team has not yet achieved mediocrity. Who is going to recruit these players? The same coach, now AD, who has recruited past STU superstars like..... oh, never mind. So when will we see the improvement? Anyone? Anyone?

  14. Hey read the rant, and not from me on Eagles holding two jobs and doing nnothing in either.

  15. Have the STU bashers forgotten that UNB has beaten EVERYBODY this year and by a far wider margin than it has beaten STU, who brought UNB into overtime twice and lead the game twice on Friday. And don't bother with that same old song and dance about the goaltender keeping them in the game - HE IS A MEMBER OF THE TEAM. Isn't that what a goaltender is supposed to do, stop shots??? If certain other teams did not have this player or that player, they wouldn't do so well either. People beat up on Eagles for not recruiting then when he acquires an outstanding goaltender...well, you get the drift.

  16. Personally I thought Eagles did a very good job recruiting this past summer and it shows by the years some of the new guys have had. However, it's hard to turn a team around over night and I think they are atleast one more good recruiting year away from being a top 4 team and that will be the key...if he can do it again this summer I think STU is in good shape...the last thing you want to see is Eagles following up this years good rookie class with a below average group next year, putting the team back where they were last year. Gotta keep building momentum going forward....

I never thought that I would publically admit to agreeing with "UNB Bruins Fan" but that person is absolutely right,a steller recruiting year for next year( Melanson already there) will have STU in a position to legitimately vie for top ranking in the AUS ie tops in the Country.

  18. I will rant and rave about how bad of a Ref Thayer Doyle is for a long time .He is not getting better and never will.
I agree with the writer that said they are only losing by a goal and have got two points from the Squirrels.STU is not a bad team, they have good players to win games.
