Tensions run high: The Daily Gleaner reports today that the men's hockey team had a little "dust up" between Jason Cassidy and Kenton Dulle. The over used "biggest game" of the season is coming up Friday night against Dalhousie so let's hope everything is smoothed over. This weekend will go a long way in determining if the Tommies get into the playoffs or miss them for the second year in a row.
Blackmore wins weekly honour at STU: With a four point game against Dalhousie on Sunday, Kayla Blackmore was awarded female athlete of the week at STU.
Reception for STU Olympian: St. Thomas defender Lucrece Nussbaum will be having a little send off reception before she leaves to join the Swiss Olympic Hockey Team at the Vancouver Olympics. STU notice
I am not buying Eagles spin on the latest activities at Tommies practice, another example of his denial of reality. There has been evidence of team tensions and rejection of Eagles brand of coaching for months and the teams rejection of him as a coach,he has to go before the team completely unravels and given to any number of local candidates to complete the year until a National search is undertaken to fill both positions.
ReplyDeleteMike Eagles is the author of this situation and does not possess the ability nor insight to correct it,somebody in authority needs to act.
They're circling the wagons. No comment from Dulle?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't reach him, and given the fact that both Eagles and Cassidy were quick to dismiss it, and Jason said they worked it out later, I thought the story as written would suffice.
ReplyDeleteit's a non story to begin with..this happens all the times at bantam practices to the nhl. How many times have we seen fights in practice on sportscentre. Asking hockey players to not compete in practice would be like asking Dale Earnhart to drive 60 on the vanier highway. I bet if you ask any coach in the AUS they will say they have had a "fight" in practice. I may not like Eagles at a coach but this is a non issue.
ReplyDeleteSTU Fan, never knew a fight between Dulls and Cass has anything to do with Eagles coaching. Does the fight between Markov and Price have to do with Jacques Martin? Its hockey, you battle your teammates as well. Ive been in a few practice skirmishes itself, it happens. But blaming this fight as a rejection of Eagles coaching style, i think your just looking for an excuse to post your dislike for eagles, just grasping at straws essentially
ReplyDelete~Tommies Video Guy~
Based on the comments, its obviuos that STU fan realize the inner workings of hockey or would know that this happens every day in hockey at all levels - actually at times it is almost expected
ReplyDeletesorry, I menat to say STU fan "doesn't" realize the inner workings of hockey
ReplyDeleteThis is not good, IMO. We don't need this stuff happening at this point in the season. This is not a good omen going to play the team you need to beat most.
ReplyDeleteThere is no positives to be drawn on here. Must admit I am a little worried for the team and the future right now.
This stuff happens all the time, sure. The reason there's a problem here is because there is an untold story of discontent.
ReplyDeleteRight on above, and the untold story is GUESS WHO? Eagles! the untold story of discontent is about to bubble over no matter how hard Eagles tries to do damage control ,the President should by now be conducting confidential interviews with all players and then conduct an execution, guarenteed that 90% of the team sees coach Eagles as inept and the wrong guy at the helm.
ReplyDeletePete Belliveau is by now smaking his lips at the prospects of fridays game, could be a disaster!
Yes, stuff like this happens all the time, but at this point in the season, doesn't that suggest a team in disarray? This team needs an overhaul, top through bottom. I hate to pile on when it comes to the coach, but Eagles needs to reallize that it's got to be one or the other, coach the hockey team or be the athletic director. Not both. His background is in hockey. He was good enough to play in the NHL. Not really sure that makes him agood coach, but it sure doesn't qualify him to be the chief administrator of the athletic department. Isn't that one of the reasons they got rid of the guy before him? Smith was doing both jobs as well and not very well, and the school dumped him for it. Look how all this has affected the support for Tommies hockey. Fan numbers are dwindling every year. And please, get the team OUT OF THE LBR. It's a cave and an embarrassment to any guy coming into the program. I'd be totally turned off having to play in that rink. Let's get on with the program, St. Thomas. It's 2010, not 1910.
ReplyDeleteonce again, a discussion that has nothing to do with Eagles turns into an Eagles discussion. The skirmish was between Dulle and Cassidy. Not about Eagles coaching ability. This is fustrating to read.
ReplyDeleteWere going to win the game friday. Its good the team is showing some emotion. If this was UNB, everyone would be like "boys will be boys" but oh no, if its STU, its all Eagles fault.
EVERYONE GIVE YOUR HEADS A SHAKE AND MAYBE LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT HOCKEY.
There are problems here people. This is not fairy tale land filled with popcorn and cotton candy. A team in seventh spot that finished seventh last year. Great progress, maybe if we are really lucky we make the playoffs. The guy that brought in these players has to take some responsibility for those players. Meanwhile UNB is laughing all the way at this mess we are in. If it is important enough to comment on isn't it important enough that someone stand up and take some responsibility?
ReplyDeleteBut it does have something to do with Eagles. He is the head coach. He is the guy who has to mesh this group into a team. He has to take responsibility for what his players do on the ice. He is the face of the program. He represents the team. His players need to reflect the way he coaches. The team needs to have emotion. And let's hope they can win in Halifax on Friday night. Your comment at the end shows your ignorance to the dynamics of the game. There's a reason you have a coach. And that is to maintain order within the team framework. BTW, nobody is saying the dust-up is Eagles' fault. But it's is job to deal with it, and deal with the players involved so this doesn't escalate into something really ugly. I'm sure Dylan Taylor in Charlottetown would have something to say about this, too.
ReplyDeleteyea, dump another million bucks into a new rink. That will fix the Tommies
ReplyDeleteAt least a new rink/facility could help draw potential recruits. And they need all the help they can get at this point.
ReplyDeleteNobody's talking about building a new rink. Aren't they doing that anyway? And I know STU is involved with that. If this program is to evolve, they have to get out of the antiquated LBR. It's tiny, the ice surface is nowhere near big enough for this level, the seating is terrible and there's terrible parking. How can a recruit take a team seriously when they're playing in a barn like that? Why not going to the O'Ree Rink for a season or 2 until the new building is built? Can't hurt, considering the team is drawing about 300 fans a game anyway. St. Thomas should have a great program. They're in a great city, offer smaller classes and a great learning environment, and there's a rich history with the program here. And yet, here they are, struggling to even make the playoffs. The shame of it all.
ReplyDeleteThis would have nothing to do with Mike Eagles coaching.Sometimes these sort of incidents help a team and bring them closer and can make a team better.
ReplyDeleteI have been a big supporter of Jason as a hockey player, but this year he has not really impressed me much. This may help. This maybe could be part of a blog he is going to write for the Hockey News.
OilSlick
I have recruited a couple of players to the Tommies hockey over the years and not one player ever complained about the rink or the parking and the only comment I remember being published by the Gleaner was a poll by opposition players who ranked the LBR as the rink they hated playing in most and so my minority opinion continues to be "we stay where we are".why give up a built in advantage? Join the Beav forever campaign as a better way to express yourself.
ReplyDeletehave you seen SMU's rink? The Dalplex They have bad buildings, and bad ice? Look at MTA girls and PEI girls rinks. Top of the line state of the art, neither team can climb out of the cellar. UNB female, great rink. 1 million dollars to move rinks?
