Sometimes things don't go your way. The Tommies lost a tough game to UPEI this afternoon 3 to 1.
Julia Sharun got the start in net and played well but penalties were the Tommies undoing on this day. STU dominated the first outshooting UPEI 11-7 according to the score keeper. A couple of goal posts and some heavy pressure did not result in anything for the Green and Gold. UPEI scored on a broken play as the puck sat at the top of the crease and took the 1-0 lead into intermission.
UPEI outshot STU 9-6 in the second thanks to a couple of power plays and were able to capitalized on both of them. The only time the Panthers had extended pressure was on PP.
The Tommies got on the board as Caroline Hammerheim got in 2 on 1 with Andrea Fischer and blew a slap shot past the UPEI goaltender but that would be it. The third saw both teams get PP time but neither could convert. The Tommies did everything but score and the final was 3 to 1. STU outshot the Panthers 33 - 24.
The Tommies head back to Fredericton for their home opener. It should be a good one as St-FX is in town on Friday night October 30th at 7 PM.
Not to be overly critical, St. Thomas Athletics has to do a better job of letting people know game results, scorers, etc. I've got a relative playing for the STU women's hockey team and to try and find out their result yesterday was next to impossible. Nothing on the STU website and nothing on the Atlantic Conference website. I called the Gleaner newspaper and they were waiting for information as well and could only give the score. Would surely like to know such things in a timely fashion. Hard to understand why it's so late getting posted on any of the websites. I do enjoy what you fellows do to keep the fans of STU informed.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The STU mens team has their roster posted on the Home site, yet nothing on the girls, except for last years. I also looked at the girls box score on the weekend and they were down three or four key players, yet no mention of that in the write up on this site. if the men were down key players, it certainly would be mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI did not see Blackmore on the game sheet
