From the STU website:
Connect with old friends, raise money for student athletes, and show off your golf swing at the fourth annual LeRoy Washburn Golf Classic.
The tournament takes place on August 14 at the Mactaquac Provincial Park. The shotgun start is at 8 am. The day ends with a meal and awards banquet hosted at the Mactaquac Lodge.
Proceeds from the tournament will go to St. Thomas’ Millennium Bursary Fund, and will directly assist student athletes in financial need.
“It’s an excellent event,” said athletics director Mike Eagles. “The tournament brings the whole athletics department, alumni, supporters and sponsors together for a great day of golf and socializing.”
The tournament honours LeRoy Washburn, a longstanding athletics director at St. Thomas who continues to work on behalf of young athletes as a dedicated community volunteer. “LeRoy’s contributions to STU’s athletics programmes have been outstanding, and we are pleased to honour and thank him,” Eagles said.
Washburn said he’s pleased to be involved in the tournament. “It keeps our alumni together,” he said. “Alumni from other universities are also participating. A number of them played against each other when they were at university, and they’re now in the city working. The golf classic gives them a chance to spend a few hours with each other.”
