Panthers pound punchless Tommies

The UPEI Panthers took full advantage of their powerplay opportunities tonight at the LBR and skated to an easy 6 to 2 decision. UPEI scored on 3 of their first 4 powerplays chances, potted 4 goals, and chased Matt Davis from the net...all of this in the first period on STU's home opener.

The Tommies got two third period goals from Erick Tremblay (Chamberland, Gallant)on a 2 man PP and Corey Banfield (Cassidy, Praught) with under a minute left in the game. The Tommies tempted fate all night by giving the Panthers powerplay opportunities that they capitalized on 4 of 7 times. Matt Davis was graciously pulled after the first period allowing 4 goals on 10 shots. Ben MacFarlane came into the game and faced 23 shots over two periods. Final shot count was STU 24 - PEI 33. The Tommies will have to regroup and get ready for next Friday's game versus St. F-X.

  1. maybe...just maybe if they played all 4 lines they wouldn't look so punchless out there ! Maybe..if they gave guys like Turgeon and Foster regular shifts they could actually get something going out there . They are every bit as good a player as any others out there and maybe even better than some. They just need regular ice time to prove it, along with a little confidence from their coach in their abilities. After all, when you're down 6-0 in the 3rd period, what could it hurt ?

  2. To be competitive in this league most of the teams play three lines consistently and give the fourth a line a shift every once in awhile. The Tommies may not be deep enough to count on that 4th line all that often, so Eagles is doing the best he can. I do agree if you are down by 6 goals, it isn't going to matter much who you put out there.

  3. If the Tommies aren't deep enough to play their 4th line then why are they there then ... I think Eagles is doing the best he can also with what he has but my point is I think he's underestimating some players and overestimating others. We'll see if time proves this theory out I guess....
