Defenceman Spencer MacDonald added to Tommies line-up

In only two short months Pat Powers has done it again, adding tough as nails defenseman Spencer MacDonald from the Summerside Western Capitals. And when I say tough, I am not kidding. Check out this quote from his former coach,

"This kid is something out of a story in history that will go down forever,” said Caps head coach Billy McGuigan. “This guy was walking around with a boot on in a cast. . . He was on crutches, and then last night (in Saturday’s semifinal game against Surrey) he got hit (in the face) and had gauze in his nose.
“The guys on our team should have learned a lesson from him, and they probably did, that this guy was a warrior. I don’t have enough words to tell you about Spencer MacDonald.”

MacDonald is a winner.  Three Kent Cup championships with Summerside, two President Trophies and one Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs.  Coach Powers commented, "Spencer is a hard working defencemen that likes to compete in the defensive zone. He has major junior experience and has won titles in every league he has played in. He is a versatile defencemen with a good all around game."

If you think back to the time when Coach Powers played for the Tommies you are probably going to remember a few things.  STU won a lot, STU was tough, and STU had team first guys.  Name on the front of the jersey type guys, not name on the back.  Our hockey program has taken a lot of serious hits over the past decade and it will take guys like Spencer MacDonald to help bring it back.
